Women's rights and community development

Green Home Organization for Women Development (GHOWD) is a grassroot women’s rights and community development organization based in Kasese District, Uganda. Since our establishment in 1996, we have evolved through progressive phases of growth, steadily strengthening our capacity, partnerships, and impact. We are dedicated to addressing gender inequality, poverty, child marriage, gender-based violence (GBV), and limited livelihood opportunities among women and girls.

Over the years, our development interventions have been heavily enriched and empowered by key strategic partners that have enabled us to robustly strengthen women’s leadership, advance agricultural value chains, drive pro-poor enterprise development, mainstream HIV/AIDS interventions, implement gender transformation processes, and anchor vital community empowerment initiatives.

Thirty years of growth

We started in 1996 with volunteers, a lot of listening and a belief that women’s and girls’ rights matter. Today we are a registered community-based organisation with partners behind us and a clear focus on what puts women and girls at risk in the first place.
